MBTA AND KEOLIS ANNOUNCE SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR ONGOING AMTRAK EMERGENCY REPAIRS

Changes to Franklin/Foxboro and Fairmount Line schedules will allow for planned construction to begin on a permanent platform at Foxboro Station

Revised schedule will allow continued track work to prepare for the introduction of battery-electric trains on the Fairmount Line

August 8, 2025 (BOSTON) – The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the operations and maintenance partner for Commuter Rail, will adjust schedules for some trains on the Franklin/Foxboro Line and the Fairmount Line beginning on Monday, August 11.

This schedule adjustment will allow Amtrak to continue to make emergency repairs following a fire at a signal bungalow caused by a downed Amtrak overhead wire on August 1. At the same time, the MBTA and Keolis will continue planned infrastructure improvements to prepare the Fairmount Line for battery-electric trains and to begin construction of a permanent, accessible platform at Foxboro Station, while Amtrak repairs are underway.

The schedule changes will be in effect between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, and updated schedules will be available soon. Special event trains for concerts and Patriots games at Gillette Stadium will continue to operate during construction.

On the Franklin/Foxboro Line:

  • Mid-day outbound trains 1725, 1731, and 1739 to Foxboro will be removed from the schedule. Passengers can utilize Franklin Line service for all stops to Walpole and connect with a shuttle bus at Walpole for service to Foxboro.
  • Mid-day inbound trains 1732, 1740, 1748 from Foxboro will be removed from the schedule. Passengers can utilize Franklin Line service for all stops to South Station and connect with a shuttle bus at Foxboro to connect with train service at Walpole.
  • Inbound train 744 (the 1:20 p.m. from Franklin) will run via the Fairmount Line to provide service to affected passengers between Fairmount and South Station.

On the Fairmount Line:

  • Outbound trains 1615 and 1643 will be removed from the schedule.
  • Inbound train 1654 will also be removed from the schedule.
  • Inbound train 744 (the 1:20 p.m. from Franklin) will run via the Fairmount Line to provide service to affected passengers between Fairmount and South Station.

Passengers traveling inbound on the Fairmount Line and Franklin/Foxboro Line can expect to arrive at their destination five minutes later due to the construction work. Shuttle buses also remain in effect between Franklin and Forge Park/495 after 9:00 a.m.

Keolis and the MBTA will continue to adjust service as Amtrak makes progress on repairs, with the goal of returning to normal Commuter Rail service for passengers as soon as possible. Passengers should subscribe to T-Alerts and follow @ MBTA_CR_Alerts on X for up-to-date information.
