KEOLIS PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY TO ENHANCE INTERIM COMMUTER RAIL STATION IN LYNN

“Keolis Cares” campaign installs plants and local art at the station

September 18, 2024 (BOSTON, MA) – Keolis Commuter Services, the operating partner for the MBTA Commuter Rail, has completed station beautification efforts at Lynn Interim Station on the Newburyport/Rockport Line. Keolis volunteers joined together with community groups and local officials to install artwork produced by Raw Art Works, community arts organization rooted in art therapy. Volunteers also cleaned up the station area and placed new landscaping near the platform.

“Lynn Interim Station is a critical link to the Commuter Rail system for the community,” said Abdellah Chajai, GM and CEO of Keolis Commuter Services. “Keolis is proud to partner with the community and local leaders to brighten this station with landscaping and beautiful local art. I would like to thank everyone who came to the station to help us with this important work.”

“I am thrilled that riders will now be able to enjoy incredible local art during their commute through Lynn Interim Station,” said Senator Brendan Crighton. “It has been amazing to witness the level of community involvement in this project, as well as the local talent that has been highlighted. I would like to express my gratitude to Keolis, Raw Art Works, and all of the volunteers for the work they put in to enhance riders’ experience of Lynn Interim Station as we await the completion of improvements at Lynn Station.”

"We are grateful for the collaboration between Keolis and RAW to increase beautification efforts at the Lynn Interim Station," said Lynn Mayor Jared C. Nicholson. "This effort reflects our commitment to creating vibrant, welcoming spaces for our community and thoughtful design to enhance the overall experience for commuters and riders, making the station a true gateway to our City."

“RAW is thrilled to bring art to the heart of our community with the interim commuter rail station project in partnership with Keolis,” saw RAW Rosario Ubiera-Minaya, Raw Art Works Executive Director. “The opportunity allowed us to contribute to the beautifying of the transit space into a vibrant and inspiring environment, reflecting the spirit, creativity and heart of our city. We hope our contributions brighten Lynners’ daily journeys and connect people through the beauty of artistic expression.”

Keolis partnered with the MBTA to construct a temporary platform in Lynn to restore service to the community in late 2023, after Lynn Station was closed in 2022 due to safety concerns. Because of Keolis’ innovative design approach, the platform was built and opened nine months ahead of schedule.

The interim platform has minimized disruption to service while the Lynn Commuter Rail Station Improvements Project advances, to ultimately deliver full accessibility, improved functionality, and enhanced system safety features in the new station.

Keolis Commuter Services has marked its tenth year operating and maintaining the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s commuter rail system, the fifth largest commuter rail operation in North America. KCS is a subsidiary of Keolis North America (KNA), both headquartered in Boston, and employs approximately 2,400 people throughout the region. KCS and KNA are part of Keolis Group, an innovative global leader in transit services with more than a century of passenger transportation experience and operations in 13 countries.
