Boston (April 4, 2024) – Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the operating partner for the MBTA Commuter Rail, is sponsoring a team of five employees to run in the 2024 Boston Marathon in honor of the late Keolis International CEO, Bernard Tabary. The team is raising money for the American Heart Association.

“We are so proud of the hard work and dedication that our team has put in to prepare for this iconic race,” said Keolis CEO Abdellah Chajai. “Bernard was an avid runner, and it’s only fitting for us to pay tribute to him by sending a team of Keolis runners to this year’s Boston Marathon. We’re honored to be contributing to such a great cause in the American Heart Association as part of our efforts.”

Team Keolis has trained together to take on the 2024 Boston Marathon. Their 26.2-mile journey will serve as a tribute to the vibrant spirit of former Keolis International CEO, Bernard Tabary, who passed away last spring. Bernard was not just a leader but an avid runner with a deep passion for marathons, including Boston. Team Keolis will be raising money for cardiac research in Bernard’s memory.

“We deeply appreciate the dedication of the employees at Keolis Commuter Services who are running the Boston Marathon and stand with them in paying tribute to the memory of their International CEO Bernard Tabary,” said Karen A. Whitefield, Executive Director of the American Heart Association. “Thanks to their support, we can continue our work to ensure all people are able to enjoy longer, healthier lives in Greater Boston and beyond. Donations to the American Heart Association help us fund lifesaving research, advocate for healthier communities, improve patient care and work for equitable health for all people.”

Team Keolis is led by Nancy Lively, a veteran marathon runner and coach. Other Keolis employees participating include Robert Verge, Donna Pursel, Sofiya Baran, and Randy Horrocks.

Keolis Commuter Services is celebrating its tenth year of operating and maintaining the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s commuter rail system, the fifth largest commuter rail operation in North America. KCS is a subsidiary of Keolis North America (KNA), both headquartered in Boston, and employs approximately 2,400 people throughout the region. KCS and KNA are part of Keolis Group, an innovative global leader in transit services with more than a century of passenger transportation experience and operations in 13 countries.
