COMMUTER RAIL ANNOUNCES SPRING/SUMMER SCHEDULE TO TAKE EFFECT MARCH 24

South Coast Rail begins service
Newburyport/Rockport Line to see construction schedule implemented

March 4, 2025 (BOSTON) - The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the agency’s operating and maintenance partner for Commuter Rail, have announced the new Spring/Summer schedule which will take effect on March 24. Schedules for all lines are available online at mbta.com/cr. The new schedule maintains consistent service throughout the day, late at night, and on weekends.

Notable changes include:

  • New service to New Bedford and Fall River with the completion of the South Coast Rail project. The Middleborough/Lakeville Line has been renamed the Fall River/New Bedford Line with the launch of the new service.
  • The Newburyport/Rockport Line will run on a temporary construction schedule from March 24 to June 1, 2025 to accommodate important track improvement work that will result in more reliable service.
  • The Greenbush and Kingston Lines will see increased service during peak rush hour times.
  • The Fairmount Line will run on a temporary construction schedule this summer to allow for important infrastructure work. More details and timing will be announced soon.
  • Schedules include new train numbers on all lines.

“Keolis is excited to partner with the MBTA in bringing service to communities along the South Coast,” said Abdellah Chajai, CEO and General Manager of Keolis Commuter Services. “Passengers across the Commuter Rail system will continue to see all day service on weekdays and weekends so they can rely on the train to get where they need to go.”

In addition to the changes noted above, the Spring/Summer schedule also removes time adjustments in the Fall/Winter schedule that account for weather-related considerations.

Keolis Commuter Services has operated and maintained the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s commuter rail system, the sixth largest commuter rail operation in North America, for over ten years. KCS is a subsidiary of Keolis North America (KNA), both headquartered in Boston, and employs approximately 2,500 people throughout the region. KCS and KNA are part of Keolis Group, an innovative global leader in transit services with more than a century of passenger transportation experience and operations in 13 countries.
