CAPEFLYER TRAIN SERVICE BETWEEN BOSTON AND HYANNIS RETURNS FOR SUMMER
Cape Cod weekend train service resumes May 24
May 23, 2024 (BOSTON, MA) - Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the MBTA’s Commuter Rail operating partner, announced that the CapeFLYER will return starting Memorial Day Weekend for its 11th summer of service between Boston’s South Station and Cape Cod. Offering roundtrip service, trains will operate Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Labor Day, along with expanded holiday service.
The CapeFLYER is a unique partnership between Keolis, the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA), the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to improve access to Cape Cod for residents and visitors.
“We’re thrilled to continue as a partner with the Cape Flyer train service,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt. “The service is a boon for residents and visitors and helps to strengthen the economic development of the Cape and Islands.”
“We’re pleased to again offer this service with our partners at MassDOT, Keolis, and CCRTA,” said MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng. “The CapeFLYER is a great example of how transit services can support communities and recreational activities beyond the traditional daily commute. We look forward to another successful CapeFLYER season and hope our passengers have a safe and happy summer.”
“We are happy to partner with CCRTA, the MBTA, and MassDOT to offer this popular summer service and give riders a traffic-free alternative to driving,” said Abdellah Chajai, Keolis General Manager and CEO. “By taking the train, passengers can leave their cars at home, enjoy the scenery along the way to Cape Cod, and make the most of their summer weekends.”
“We are very excited to be entering our 11th season of offering visitors and locals transportation to the Cape and Islands without encountering traffic. It’s wonderful to put the Cape’s 3rd bridge – the Canal Railroad bridge - into use to relieve the congestion summer weekends have on our infrastructure. We have worked closely with the region’s ferry operators to provide convenient connections to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard,” said CCRTA Administrator Thomas Cahir. “We are excited to be adding the First-Class car and to continue to offer our loyal passengers this $10 round-trip fare as a thank you to all of their years of ridership.”
CapeFLYER service begins at Boston’s South Station and stops in Braintree, Brockton, Middleboro, Wareham, Buzzards Bay, and Bourne, ending in Hyannis. A round-trip ticket from South Station to Hyannis is $40, and children 11 and under ride free with a fare-paying adult. Dogs and bikes are also welcome on board. The unique bicycle car will again be part of the train set with racks for bicycles and a tool kit for passengers to use to give their bikes a tune up during the ride.
Tickets are available now via the mTicket app and are also available for purchase at South Station.
The popular $10 roundtrip ticket for the month of June returns this year. To make day trips convenient and affordable, a $20 round-trip ticket for same-day travel on Sundays will be offered again this summer as well. Customers may also purchase a ten-ride pass for the price of eight.
This year, the CapeFLYER makes traveling to the Cape even better with a new first-class car. The first-class car features large leather reclining seats with footrests and tray tables, and the ticket price includes a complimentary drink. The first-class car, along with the existing CapeFLYER Café Car, offer light fare and cocktails, and are serviced by Blonde on the Run Catering, ensuring quality refreshments throughout the journey.
